Waarom is opvolgbeplanning belangrik?

Why is succession planning important?

If one just looks at businesses that you do business with and you see that the owner of the business is getting old. You then ask yourself the question: “Will this business continue to exist? Will I be able to get my products from this business in the future?”

When you do succession planning and communicate it to the stakeholders of your business, they will feel reassured. They will feel that they have been taken into account and that the business will continue to exist. For example, your clients. Your clients will know that this business will continue, I don’t have to look for someone else. You keep your clients.

The same with your suppliers. The suppliers also get the confirmation that this business will continue to exist. The supplier then says to himself “This remains a client of mine. I have to look after them. I have to give them the necessary care.” As you must give the necessary care to your client.

The same with your employees. Your good employees will know: “Oh, the business will continue. I don’t have to go look for another job.” Especially if they also reach an older age where it becomes difficult to move, or to find other work. Your employees will be happy too. You will be able to retain good talent in your business to take it forward.

That’s why succession planning is critical, and you need to communicate it to the stakeholders. But, you are only going to communicate this when you have a succession plan in place. Then you know what you are talking about, what you can communicate to them and that they also know what they should look for, what they should pay attention to. It gives assurance to the stakeholders of your business. Pay attention to the stakeholders of your business, show them that you will be there and that your business will be there for the foreseeable future and into the next generations.
